For years we’ve been fielding calls from loyal patrons begging us to open a Laemmle in the Santa Clarita Valley. As reported by The Signal, we are in the very early stages of a real project in Old Town Newhall. In fact, the project is on the agenda at Tuesday’s Santa Clarita City Council meeting.
Here’s your chance to be heard! Join us at the meeting to lend your voice in support! Your local elected officials need to hear that there is a real demand for Laemmle Theatres in the SCV.
The Santa Clarita City Council meeting is scheduled for 6pm on Tuesday, July 14 at City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd. Hang around afterwards to chat with Laemmle President, Greg Laemmle and Laemmle Vice President, Jay Reisbaum. Hope so see you there!
UPDATE: The vote was unanimous. 3-0. Two council members had to recuse themselves because of conflict of interest. However, one of the council members who had to recuse herself was allowed to speak from the floor as a public citizen, and she spoke in favor of the project.
The next step in the process is to negotiate a detailed Purchase and Sale Agreement with city staff. This document will provide detailed information on how the project would proceed, and will provide the legal framework for what each party is required to deliver in order for the project to proceed. We’ll keep you updated! And thank you!

There is a lack of honesty here!
The theater will need to be constructed and subsidized totally using public funds.
Laemmle will not provide any investment in the community.
The anticipated costs will be over $20 Million of public funds.
The theater and city anticipate a total of 200,000 moviegoers in a year. That is almost 1,000 people a day. That is unrealistic.
Asking the public to subsidize this is just stealing our money!

Santa Clarita will benefit from the Laemmle cinema sensibility. The city has a large contingent of film industry and art affeciandos, The addition of a Laemmle theater will provide residents of Santa Clarita with another reason to be proud to live in the SCV (and not have to drive to the SFV!)

I’d love to see a Laemmle in Santa Clarita! Often went to the Valley for Laemmle films but the frequent gridlock in the Newhall Pass is now making that drive difficult. Laemmle would be the best news for Santa Clarita!!

I hope this happens SCV really needs this.

I urge the city to endorse the construction of a theater by Laemmle. It’s always the same stuff that is shown at the TWO Edward’s Theaters. We
need some refreshment from Edwards. Go Laemmle!!

AND…it would be a big draw to downtown Newhall and to the restaurants and food establishments on Main Street. Do it To it!!

This would be terrific! I live near here and think that it would bring in a lot of revenue plus some diversity, other than two Regal cinemas….

For years I’ve been meeting friends at Laemmle theaters in Pasadena and more recently NoHo. It’s time for them to meet me here to enjoy lunch (or dinner) and a movie. Please!!! Bring it home!

Please help bring a new theatre to the SCV. Laemmle is known for their taste in films that the patrons of this valley are eager to enjoy. What a great addition it would be to Old Town Newhall. The additional revenues brought in by it’s presence to the city and it’s surrounding businesses would be nothing short of the most exciting development in the city. Let’s go, Laemmle, let’s go!!!!
Vicki Woolman says
I agree! We need a Laemmle! Please!
