I intend to see the movie, and I shall reserve judgment until then.

When I first saw this movie trailer, I thought wow, so sensual, so risqué of a film made in VN, the cinematography seemed very artistic, the costume so beautiful, the scenery is breathtaking, and the storyline is sad, but true to 19th century Vietnam life. I was really excited to see it. Until I learned that the actress was only 13 years old!
The promoters argument is don’t judge until you see it, that it’s all pretend. The trailer is enough for me to judge. It’s unbelievable that the movie made it this far. My biggest issue with this movie is that the actress is only 13! She’s not even old enough to see this movie let alone act in it. There must be some child labor law and child porn violations here. This child actress was failed by her mother who signed the contract, failed by the film crew who exploit her. And she will be failed by us, the public with common decency if we allow this to show in our community. Don’t see this movie. Even if it’s to see before u judge. Don’t let the producers make a dime out of it. If it’s not profitable, they won’t continue to make movies like this. Movies like this normalize pedophile. It will only open doors for pedophiles to make more of these films under the guise of art. It is NOT art. It had crossed on to child pornography. It’s too bad. It would have been a good movie if they used an adult actress, like what many responsible film producers had done.
