Laemmle’s Umpteenth Annual Oscar Contest, 2017 Edition!

January 26, 2017 by Lamb L.

oscars-bgIt’s time for our annual Predict the Oscars Contest! The person who most accurately predicts the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s choices in all 24 categories, from the shorts to Best Motion Picture, will win fabulous prizes (free movies and concessions at Laemmle)!

First place wins a Laemmle Premiere Card worth $150. Second place wins a Laemmle Premiere Card worth $100. Third place wins a Laemmle Premiere Card worth $50. Entries are due by 10AM the morning of the awards ceremony on February 26th.

prem-blogNot sure what a Laemmle Premiere Card is? Think of it like a prepaid gift card for yourself! Use it to pay for movie tickets and concessions. Plus, Premiere Card holders receive $2 off movie tickets and 20% off concessions. To find out more, visit www.laemmle.com/premiere-cards.

We’ve got some smart cookies for customers so we have a tie-breaker question: you also have to guess the show’s running time. Take the tie-breaker seriously! Last year, the running time question broke a tie between five entrants who correctly predicted 19 out of 24 categories!

We’ll announce the winners right here on our blog by March 1st. Good luck!

BHN_cover_02

It comes as no surprise that DYING TO KNOW, Gay Dillingham’s documentary has been held over at three Laemmle locations (Monica Film Center, Playhouse 7 and Claremont 5). After all, it chronicles the intriguing friendship between TIMOTHY LEARY and RAM DASS, two of the 60s most fascinating luminaries. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the film has been playing to great critical and audience acclaim.  To wit, check out this short video clip featuring audience footage from the film’s premiere at the Royal last week.

To celebrate this sleeper hit, we’ve procured a copy of Ram Dass’ seminal book BE HERE NOW signed by the great mystic himself!

ENTER BELOW for your chance to win this singular prize … and don’t forget to catch Dying to Know in theaters this weekend.

Update: Congratulation to BE HERE NOW contest winner Lycia Naff of Los Angeles!

The contest is now closed.

Contest: Win Tickets to See TOP GUN with L.A. Conservancy’s Last Remaining Seats!

May 27, 2016 by Lamb L.

latheaterLast Remaining Seats presents a contest straight outta 1986! Enter for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see TOP GUN June 4th at the beautiful Los Angeles Theater in Downtown LA!

Last Remaining Seats is the Los Angeles Conservancy’s annual program that combines classic film with L.A.’s historic theatres. Top Gun  is this year’s opening film. Visit the L.A. Conservancy’s website for the full schedule of screenings.

Top Gun was the highest-grossing film of 1986, due in part to the action-packed aerial scenes that were a huge hit with audiences. It earned both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song, the unforgettable “Take My Breath Away” performed by Berlin. Top Gun was released thirty years ago in 1986. Not coincidentally, this is the thirtieth annual season of Last Remaining Seats!

Entering the contest is easy. Just fill out the form below to signup for Laemmle’s weekly email newsletter. The deadline to enter is 5PM on Thursday, June 2nd. Two winners will be selected and announced Friday morning at 11AM.  Already a newsletter subscriber? Go ahead and re-enter your email address (don’t worry, you won’t get extra email).

Prizes:
– Two VIP Tickets (reserved seating) to the 2pm screening of Top Gun (June 4)
– Two General Admission Tickets to the 8pm screening of Top Gun (June 4).

This contest is now closed!  Good luck to all entrants.

Laemmle’s 2016 Predict the Oscars Contest Winners

March 2, 2016 by Lamb L.

Every year we award movie passes to our customers who most accurately predict the Oscars in all 24 categories and every year we stress the importance of the tie-breaker question. For the second year in a row there was a five-way tie! Yes, five people correctly predicted 19 out of 24 categories. Placement on our imaginary podium was then determined by how accurately they predicted the length of the Oscar ceremony (217 minutes). Best Picture, Supporting Actor, and Animated Short proved to be the most difficult categories to predict.

Fourth and fifth place will also receive a premiere card– it wouldn’t feel right to send them away empty-handed after coming so close!

Congratulations to the winners!

1st) Joel B. – $150 Premiere Card
2nd) Raymond W. – $100 Premiere Card
3rd) Dan K. – $50 Premiere Card
4th) Gideon L. – $40 Premiere Card
5th) Leslie L. – $25 Premiere Card
