Time Again to Sing from the Rooftops!

December 19, 2013 by Lamb L.

Will the matchmaker make you “the perfect match?”  There’s only one way to find out … join us this year for our 6th ANNUAL FIDDLER ON THE ROOF CHRISTMAS EVE SING-A-LONG!

This year, the popular Fiddler program has been extended to more venues to accommodate demand including, for the first time, the PLAYHOUSE 7 and the CLAREMONT 5.

In addition to exuberant movie and song, the evening will feature TRIVIA with PRIZES being awarded to Fiddler buffs with the quickest recall.  Dressing in COSTUME is not required, but highly encouraged! Who knows, perhaps the best costume will garner a prize?  That will be up to the emcee.  Indeed, each location will feature its own host, among them our very own GREG LAEMMLE.

“Christmas Eve isn’t just Chinese food anymore!” says Greg Laemmle. “We welcome all those in the community who are looking for an alternative Christmas eve experience.”

He continues,  “This is your once-a-year chance to be the star of the shtetl. Join voices with friends and neighbors and sing your heart out alongside Fiddler’s screen legends,” he continues.  “And it’s okay if you haven’t memorized all the songs. We provide the lyrics.”

Song highlights include the iconic “TRADITION”, “IF I WERE A RICH MAN”,  “TO LIFE”, “SUNRISE SUNSET”, “DO YOU LOVE ME?” and “ANATEVKA”, among many, many more.

Don’t miss the buggy! Those who wish to attend the program are advised to purchase tickets in advance as the program has traditionally sold to capacity.

See you in the shtetl…

Two Advance Screenings of AMERICAN HUSTLE: Tickets Now on Sale

December 3, 2013 by Lamb L.

Earlier today the New York Film Critics Circle announced their 2013 honorees and David O. Russell’s AMERICAN HUSTLE won Best Picture, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Lawrence. The film opens wide on December 18 but you can be among the first to see the film on December 10 at the Royal or NoHo. We’re big fans of Mr. Russell’s from Flirting with Disaster to I [Heart] Huckabees to The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook and his latest is just as fabulously entertaining as his earlier movies.

Here’s a synopsis: A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, AMERICAN HUSTLE tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). Like David O. Russell’s previous films, AMERICAN HUSTLE defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes. Jennifer Lawrence co-stars.

Our AMERICAN HUSTLE at our Royal and NoHo 7 theaters on Tuesday, December 10 are part of the New York Film Critics Series, and will feature a pre-recorded Q&A with the filmmaker moderated by More Magazine film critic Allison Bailes. Buy tickets for the Royal screening here and the NoHo screening here.

Help for the Holidays + Flicks Candy

November 21, 2013 by Lamb L.

As a gesture of thanks to the community that has sustained us for seventy-five years, Laemmle Theatres is pleased to announce HELP FOR THE HOLIDAYS.  We have matched each of our theatres with a specific local charitable organization.  The funds raised from the sale of Flicks candy at each theatre during this holiday season will be passed on to the following worthy organizations:

Every time someone purchases a Flicks Candy for $2.50, Laemmle Theatres will donate $1.00 to charity. We also have special combinations:

1) small popcorn, small fountain drink + Flicks for $8.25 ($1 Off for Patron & $2 going to charity)

2) medium popcorn, medium fountain drink + Flicks for $9.00 ($1.50 Off for Patron & $2.50 going to charity)

3) large popcorn, large fountain drink + Flicks for $9.75 ($2 off for Patron & $3 going to Charity)

Claremont – HOUSE OF RUTH

Monica – OCEAN PARK COMMUNITY CENTER

NoHo – L.A. FAMILY HOUSING

Playhouse – UNION STATION HOMELESS SERVICES

Music Hall and Royal – WESTSIDE FOOD BANK

Town Center – SOVA

We don’t normally sell Flicks, but it is a delicious, old-timey candy first introduced in 1904. Try it! We’ll only be selling it through the holidays.

For more information about our charitable activities, visit http://laemmlefoundation.org/
