Bill Moyers Piece on FOLLOWING THE NINTH: “A Gem of a Movie.”

November 19, 2013 by Lamb L.

We are thrilled to open the new documentary FOLLOWING THE NINTH: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF BEETHOVEN’S FINAL SYMPHONY this Friday at the Music Hall. The Village Voice described it as “that rarest of films: a documentary as ineffable and transformative in its reach as it sets out to be.” Veteran journalist Bill Moyers recently did a piece about the film, which you can watch right here:

Rave review of Frederick Wiseman’s AT BERKELEY in The New Yorker

November 13, 2013 by Lamb L.

Frederick Wiseman, one of our greatest and most prolific documentarians, always delves deeply into his subjects and for his latest, AT BERKELEY, that’s more true that ever. He found one of California’s great treasures, U.C. Berkeley, such a rich subject that it required a four hour film. It is receiving some rave reviews, including this one from one that most astute of film critics, David Denby of The New Yorker. We are proud to open AT BERKELEY this Friday at the Music Hall.

Songs from the New Coen Brothers Movie INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

November 7, 2013 by Lamb L.

In December we’re excited to open the Coen Brothers’ new movie INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, and one of the reasons, other than the fact that the Coens are inevitably entertaining, is that this one, like O Brother Where Art Thou?, has a major musical component, in this case, the American folk music revival of early 1960’s Greenwich Village. NPR is streaming the entire T Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack, and there is some beautiful stuff. Enjoy.
