Crowd Pleasing Musicals Every Throwback Thursday in May at the NoHo 7 with Eat|See|Hear!

April 27, 2017 by Lamb L.

There will be feasting and dancing on Lankershim this May! Laemmle Theatres and Eat|See|Hear present a full month of our favorite musicals every Throwback Thursday in May at the NoHo 7 in North Hollywood. Musical May kicks off on Thursday, May 4th with the GUYS AND DOLLS. Doors open at 7 PM, trivia starts at 7:30 PM, and films begin at 7:40 PM! Check out the full schedule below. For tickets and our full #TBT schedule, visit laemmle.com/tbt!

May 4: GUYS AND DOLLS
Incorrigible gamblers Sky Masterson (Marlon Brando) and Nathan Detroit (Frank Sinatra) involve each other in a complicated plot to maintain “The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York,” while dolls Jean Simmons as Sergeant Sarah Brown and Vivian Blaine as Miss Adelaide try and stand in their way. Luck, as it turns out, is a Lady after all. Get tickets.

May 11: WEST SIDE STORY
One of the most honored and commercially successful of all movie musicals, WEST SIDE STORY earned a near-record 10 Academy Awards in 1961. The film version of the groundbreaking stage musical that re-imagined Romeo and Juliet in contemporary New York City retained and deepened the play’s emotional impact by bringing together a show business all-star team. Robbins and Wise reworked the classic Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim score and came up with fresh casting ideas for this ever timely story of racial prejudice and conflict. The stars of the movie included Natalie Wood, Russ Tamblyn, Oscar winner George Chakiris, and Oscar winner Rita Moreno. Get tickets.

May 18: HAIR
Milos Forman’s film adaptation of the popular, controversial Broadway musical Hair follows a reserved Midwesterner (John Savage) who joins a group of hippies in Central Park on his way to joining the Army. The musical numbers were choreographed by Twyla Tharp and sung by vocalists like Ellen Foley, Ronnie Dyson, Nell Carter and Melba Moore. Get tickets.

May 25: FUNNY GIRL
Barbra Streisand makes her Oscar winning film debut in a reprisal of her Broadway role as Ziegfeld star Fanny Brice. Brice, a poor Jewish girl from New York’s Lower East Side, rose to fame and won audience’s hearts everywhere with her comic antics and powerful singing. Unfortunately, she had far less success in her personal life, and the film focuses on her doomed romance with her first husband, gambler Nicky Arnstein, played by Omar Sharif. Get tickets.

Step Up to the Plate Every Throwback Thursday in April at the NoHo 7 with Eat|See|Hear!

March 29, 2017 by Lamb L.

Spring has sprung, the Major League Baseball season starts Sunday, and our hopes for a World Series Championship in Los Angeles are renewed. Hopefully, they will be renewed so we can start enjoying our favorite sport again! When baseball season arrives, a lot of people get extremely excited, especially those who are looking to place some bets on their favorite team. A lot of people use mobile sports betting Indiana companies to place their bets, but this can vary depending on where the baseball fans live. Of course, placing bets isn’t essential, but it can make the games more fun to watch as there is the potential for fans to make some extra money if they place a bet on the correct team to win. If the Cubs can win it, so can the Dodgers, and lots and lots of experts are pointing to the Trolley Dodgers’ pitching, depth, and farm system and predicting they will, at the very least, play deep into October. Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen, Justin Turner, Corey Seager, and Adrian Gonzalez are all back and surely the team won’t use the disabled list in 2017 as much as they did last year, right? Either way, I’m going to make sure the Dodgers play to win when it comes to my fantasy baseball league, as for if they actually will… Well, let’s hope.

Celebrate this very special sport, our erstwhile national pastime, by joining Laemmle and Eat|See|Hear for “April at Bat,” a full month of our favorite baseball movies at the NoHo 7 in North Hollywood! Our season opens on Thursday, April 6th with the THE BAD NEWS BEARS. Doors open at 7 PM, trivia starts at 7:30 PM, and films begin at 7:40 PM! Check out the full schedule below. In this tribute to dreamers, Kevin Costner stars as an Iowa farmer who constructs a baseball diamond in his fields after hearing the inspirational message, “If you build it, he will come.” James Earl Jones, Burt Lancaster, Ray Liotta, Amy Madigan, and Gaby Hoffman co-star. Based on W.P. Kinsella’s novel. Get tickets.

(Scroll down to watch the event trailer. For tickets, visit Laemmle.com/Fiddler).

The rare concurrence of Christmas Eve and the first night of Chanukah adds a new wrinkle to our tradition this year, enabling the community to come together in celebration of the Jewish holiday. “This year we can sing from the rooftops … and light the Chanukah Menorah!” comments Greg Laemmle.

To accommodate demand, the popular Fiddler program has been extended to six venues including the newly re-opened AHRYA FINE ARTS art deco movie palace in Beverly Hills.

In addition to exuberant movie and song, the evening will feature TRIVIA with PRIZES being awarded to Fiddler buffs with the quickest recall. Dressing in COSTUME is not required, but highly encouraged! Who knows, perhaps the best costume will garner a prize? That will be up to the emcee.

Our own Greg Laemmle is enthusiastic as ever about the Fiddler experience, in part due to it having one of the best movie scores of all time, declaring that “Christmas Eve isn’t just Chinese food anymore!” Furthermore, “We welcome all those in the community who are looking for an alternative Christmas eve experience … and this year, a different first night of Chanukah to boot!”

He continues, “This is your once-a-year chance to be the star of the shtetl. Join voices with friends and neighbors and sing your heart out alongside Fiddler’s screen legends,”?he continues. “And it’s okay if you haven’t memorized all the songs. We provide the lyrics.”
